HELL and I is a project about people living in Stockholm, Sweden and their stories told while running. Shortness of breath brings out the best!
HELL and I – #3 Fake Pilot (Mattias Lindberg)
When Mattias Lindberg sets his mind to something, it happens.
Throughout his whole life, Mattias Lindbergs’ choices have been based on curiosity. As a result, these choices have led to the opportunity to work with some of the worlds most recognisable artists and brands. Although Mattias gives himself the title of Motion Graphic Designer, I have seen first hand how this curiosity extends into his everyday lifestyle. Apart from creating an alter ego (Fake Pilot) after finding a Mig-29 Russian fighter pilot helmet, there have also been multiple challenges and experiments with diet, running and most recently with body weight training. Mattias is strongest at the point when the majority would have to give up. I don’t think there is any secret to his success, perhaps it’s his ability to ‘reframe’ each challenge or choice in a way that makes the light at the end of the tunnel seem closer. While running side by side for this interview through the crowded streets of Stockholm city centre, Gamla Stan, and on to his home in Södermalm, Mattias ‘reframed’ the challenge of dodging all of the people to running in the forest. Instead of getting frustrated with the stopping and starting, it became more like a game. Food for thought!
Who inspires you and why? Two that inspires me are Ash Thorp and David O’Reilly. I think they are great artists. Ash works with the movie industry, but is also a teacher at LearnSquared.com. David now makes games but did some really cool short movies. Both makes short movies actually…
When you are not running what are you doing? I also climb bouldering and do body weight training. When I got some time over, I sit with some private project or learn Houdini.
What is your superpower? Can become invisible when no one is looking. Which is really useful…? Can also see through the lies of mainstream media, religion, economics and power. Sometimes that feels more like a curse than a blessing, though.
Are you working on any projects right now that you can share publicly? Not at the moment, sorry. One is a video project, where I use my Sony A7s camera rig. Another one, I use Kinect and Brekel to record point clouds. Could be cool… Also learning a lot about rendering 3D with Redshift and Octane. You can follow my Instagram to see my experiments! http://instagram.com/fakepilot
If you could have dinner with 3 people dead or alive, who would they be? A dinner I would have wanted to last for weeks… John Lennon, John F. Kennedy and Bruce Lee.
Feel good songs? Delightfully powerful. Ping Island/Lightning Strikes Rescue Op By Mark Mothersbaugh. https://open.spotify.com/track/0cbRRgMJiIWNgX2xYb511K
How can people get in touch with you? Website, Blog, email etc… Go to fakepilot.com – it’s all there 📷
